This paper applies a multivariate approach for measuring the vocabulary richness of a literary text to thirteen textual samples. These samples are taken from both the personal writings and the prophetic voices of Joseph Smith and Joanna Southcott, and from the King James Bible. It is shown that statistical procedures based on vocabulary richness prove sensitive enough to distinguish between samples from the same genre as well as being able to discriminate between samples from different genres. The paper also looks for possible biblical influence on the style of the prophetic voices analysed.
